To tell you the truth – I would have assumed I would have a partner by the time this Valentine’s came round. Therefore, my past self from when the first batch of Hamilton tickets were launched last January snapped up a pair. One for me and one for my potential partner.
Before I knew it, the first week of February rolled by and I still haven’t found someone to spoil. I resigned to myself to my single existence. I just grabbed a random friend to come along to the Victoria Palace Theatre – the former home of Billy Elliot.
This didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the show whatsoever. First time listening to the soundtrack live on-stage further enhanced the experience. The expressions, the performances, the atmosphere – all left me momentarily speechless after each song.
I could fully understand the reputation that this production has garnered and it certainly delivered. I would go again if ticket prices weren’t as steep (but I will definitely see it again…somehow).
Hamilton is simply a production that is enjoyable regardless whether you’re alone, friends or family. It takes you back to a hip&rap rendition of the American Revolution.
We follow the struggles and triumphs of Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers who has gained increasing popularity from this musical in the States and Internationally. Even I had no clue on who he was or realise it’s his face on the ten dollar bill.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a history buff, a fan of the soundtrack or just completely clueless. Hamilton is one for your theatre bucket list. At least experience it for yourself to get understand its such a critically and public success.
King George scenes are little nuggets of comedy gold throughout the play.
West End tickets are available on Ticketmaster.
