Want something lighthearted and downright arbitrary romance? Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun might just be what you’re looking for! Despite, following the shoujo cliché of the‘Dry Ice’ female protagonist falling for the wildest child in school. It also throws in nonsensical comical queues, such a pet rooster and haphazard misunderstandings. Resulting to you mentally question “What the hell?!” whilst simultaneously laughing hysterically.
The anime explores the awkward exchanges between seemingly emotionless Shizuku and uncontrollable monster Haru. We witness the development of these socially withdrawn individuals (more join the party) producing comical and occasionally cute results.
I must express my love for one of the most adorable openings I have witnessed, Q&A Recital is a very catchy and cute tune. The animation is an explosion of colours and sweetness. I was later diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes after re-watching it countless of times. My previous statement was a joke just for clarification.
In all honesty, it is not possible for me to describe the overly arbitrary humour and I highly recommend you to experience it yourself. Then it’s up to you decide whether to get continuous dosage of sugar.
